I said in my first blog TV shows is
having a huge impact in the way people perceive what interior designers do. In
my opinion everyday HGTV shows makes it harder for us the interior designers to defend our
professionalism. Interior designers have been fighting really hard to get their
"Name" instead of getting them confused with the interior decorators.
In my opinion I think that every show in HGTV should be canceled or at least
they should show the whole process that we have to do to finish every project. I
believe that in the future if those shows are still on air we should call our profession interior architecture
because most of the people understand it more when you tell them that you are
going to school for interior architecture than interior design. When you tell
them interior design they believe all we do is decorate. If now a days we make
a survey asking people what do they think interior design is and what interior
architecture is. I believe a 89% of the people will answer two things or they
either don't know what interior design is or they are going to say that
interior design has to do with decorating. In conclusion, I don't believe we
can make a should that explains what interior designers do because one job can
take up to 3 or more years and there is a lot of process that a camera can not
capture.

The importance of knowing Interior Design in another language
Interior design is a practice that is
done in every country. A certain percent of the people that are studying
interior design may speak two to three languages. A good example will be myself
I'm a 23 year old women who speaks three languages which in two I'm very
fluent. I'm about to graduate from a Bachelors in Interior Design and I know
all the terms and how to work with every program in English. Right now I have a
little bit of a disadvantage because when I'm done with school I will like to
work for a global company so that way I can work in different countries. I
believe that if in your faculty there is a teacher that is fluent in two
language and he knows all the terms in two languages and can teach it they
should teach the student in both languages so that way when they graduate they
have an advantage. Learning a foreign language
teaches you that there are often several ways to express a concept or an idea.
In the business world, it gives you an incredible edge in being able to
communicate directly with your customer. It creates a relationship you could
never achieve through an interpreter. I believe we pay a lot of money to get a
good education and get a bachelors. And
with it have a successful job not to graduate and have a little bit of a
disadvantage between a percentage of people.

How multimedia is changing the perception of Interior Design
Now a day’s multimedia has a lot
of influence among the people. People believe in everything a commercial has to
offer or they believe any information they get from a show. And that’s the main
problem of why people don’t know what an interior designer is or what they do.
TV shows about interior design have made a drastic change about what it really
means. A good example of this is that most of the shows on HGTV have to do with
renovations or redesigning a space. In those shows they skip all of the steps
an interior designer has to go through in order to finish a project. So for
them it's easier to show people what an interior decorator does so it confuses
people. That’s the main problem of why people don’t know what interior design
is or they either think we are decorators. Instead of confusing people, they
should be informing and educating them of how much work an interior designer
does and how long a project can last. Interior design is not the same as interior
decorating, there are a lot of differences between those two careers. An
interior designer has to do detailing, sketching, specification of materials,
renderings, and furniture selection. For a better understanding of the definition
of what is an interior designer is, here is how the designer Jessica Mann
Amato defined it “Design is the
expression of the envelope that surrounds you at work, at home, at play,
everywhere. It’s creating an experience, an emotion, or a story of your surroundings;
helping life’s functions to be pleasing to the senses while organizing you.”
